每星期空載試機一次，運轉時間10-15分鐘，以便及時發現問題，並確保蓄電池有足夠容量供發電機啟動。
1.保養前應切斷發電機自動空氣開關，主開關置於停止位置，折開蓄電池正負級電源線，確認發電機不能啟動。
2.檢查蓄電池電解液水位，不足時應依其濃度加入硫酸溶液或蒸餾水。
3.計算發電機距上次養的累積運轉時間，空氣濾淨器每50小時應清潔一次，機油濾淨器、柴油濾淨器、水過濾器每250小時更換一次濾芯。
4.檢查機組是否有漏水、漏油現象，清潔發電機機身。
5.接妥蓄電池電源線及接頭，測試故障顯示燈應全亮。
6.檢查接地線是否良好。
7.檢查機房抽風機運轉狀況，柴油油量是否足夠運轉八小時。
8.檢查冷郤水水位、機油油位是否正常。
9.手動試機運轉正常後，打開發電機自動空氣開關，主開關切至自動啟動位置，進行模擬停電測試，觀察發電機自動啟動狀況。
10.發電機帶負荷運轉一小時，觀察各儀表指示和機組運轉是否正常。
11.填寫運轉記錄及保養記錄。
